VMD, DACVIM (Neurology), CCRT, CVA

Dr. Steve Steinberg conceived of and opened one of the first totally referral-based private specialty hospitals in the country in 1977. That hospital has evolved into the world renowned Veterinary Referral Associates of today.

Always the innovator, Steve has brought numerous firsts to private practice from the first subspecialties such as radiology, cardiology, and oncology as well as bringing the first hemodialysis to the area. At VRA under Steve’s guidance we have trained specialists from all over the world as well as a continuing intern class.

Having treated tens of thousands of neurology cases, it was always clear that there were avenues yet to be travelled for the best for his patients. About 15 years ago, Steve started studying rehabilitation therapy as an adjunct to his every day practice. Certainly once a client is evaluated or has surgery, there has to be greater emphasis on the recovery components as is common to human medicine. Diving into the area of animal rehabilitation led Steve to become certified, then an instructor at the Canine Rehabilitation Institute in Wellington, Florida. It was natural that Steve’s success in the world of veterinary practice led him not only to teach neurology but also the successful business practices of running a veterinary hospital. Steve continues to teach business courses all over the world even today.

Always pushing the envelope. Steve decided that acupuncture was a natural extension of the treatment of neurologic disease and Steve became certified in that field as well. Taking advanced courses has led Steve to not only treat cases with acupuncture but also the broad gamut of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine including herbal therapy.

Steve has decreased his practice time to just two days per week where he works with a fabulous rehabilitation team and practices his acupuncture.

Steve today, has started raising Katahdin sheep and has started attending courses dealing with small ruminant veterinary medicine.

Steve and his team are always there to help your favorite furry friend receive the best care available.
