Marina Mavromatis received her DVM degree from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2013. Dr. Mavromatis then completed a one-year small animal rotating internship at VCA SouthPaws Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Center in Fairfax, Virginia. She went on to finish a residency in diagnostic imaging at Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in Massachusetts in 2017. While she enjoys all aspects of diagnostic imaging, her favorite modality is MRI and she particularly loves special procedures (fluoroscopy, placing stents) and intra-operative applications for ultrasound.
Marina was raised in a traditional Greek-American household (gyro is pronounced “yee-roh” 😉) in Charlotte, NC. Her passion is traveling the world with her husband, Michael Thelen. Together, they have visited nearly half of the United States (Seattle, Washington is their favorite stop to date), Greece, China (they loved walking the wall!), and multiple countries in Central America and the Caribbean. Their preferred way to travel is by cruise ship and they can’t wait to take an Alaskan cruise and go whale watching someday soon. When they aren’t traveling to distant lands, they enjoy kayaking, watching movies, or renting small planes for a quick flight as Michael is a licensed pilot. They are excited to return to the culture and pace of the mid-Atlantic and currently share their home with two Shiba Inus, three cats, two chinchillas, and a yellow nape Amazon parrot named JASA.
